McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center is a fun, informative, interactive and family-friendly place to visit in Concord. Honoring the first American in Space, Alan Bartlett Shepard, and Sharon Christina McAuliffe who was a teacher aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger.

The center includes cool exhibits to view like a huge XF8U-2 Crusader jet and a satellite designed by students, engineers and scientists at University of New Hampshire. There are also a bunch of hands-on exhibits like ‘Picture Yourself in Infrared’ where you can step in front of a camera and see yourself in infrared light or ‘Across the Spectrum’ where you can see, feel and hear the electromagnetic spectrum. The center makes the science world accessible and ties in the great contributions by New Hampshire locals. They have a 103 seat Planetarium Theater that offers a few different shows with a full dome video system. There is also an observatory with telescope from which you can view the sun. A definite must see in your travels through Concord.
